Ukraine is building secret bunkers for F-16s: how fighters are protected from Russian strikes.
Ukraine is actively constructing underground bunkers to protect the fighter jets received from Western allies. Additionally, the central government utilizes various tricks at airbases to complicate life for Russia.
According to The National Interest, Ukraine keeps the locations of F-16 and Mirage 2000 fighters a secret. However, this strategy of protecting the fighters has its drawbacks since the aircraft require special equipment to remain operational in the air.
Important modules for supporting fighters
The charity fund 'Come Back Alive' together with the Ministry of Defense has developed two mobile modules - for technical maintenance of aircraft and for mission planning. These platforms allow the F-16s to operate from various bases, including civilian airfields.
'The main task is to ensure that F-16s remain unnoticed on the ground,' emphasized Peter Layton, a former officer of the Royal Australian Air Force.
The expert added that the dispersed placement of F-16s makes the task of enemy intelligence more complicated.
In July, the Security Service of Ukraine revealed and detained a Russian agent within the Air Force. The major was gathering information about airfields with F-16 fighters for potential strikes. Earlier, an assassination attempt by the FSB of the Russian Federation on the commander of the 'Vovki Da Vinci' battalion, Sergey Filimonov, was also uncovered.
Underground bunkers and tricks with the placement of fighters under protection are Ukraine's attempts to ensure the security and confidentiality of military equipment usage from its allies. The development of special modules for supporting fighters demonstrates the improvement of military infrastructure and readiness for potential conflict.Read also
