43% of Britons suffer from stomach problems: simple hacks for a healthy gut

According to The Sun: If you have stomach issues, don't hesitate to seek medical advice. Do you feel discomfort while trying to take on the world's responsibilities? According to the charity Guts UK, over 40% of Britons face stomach problems, with women experiencing constipation, bloating, and pain more often than men.

Understanding the state of your gut microbiota (the good and bad bacteria living in our digestive tract) can affect mood, immunity, and weight. And even if you have an iron stomach, there are simple ways to show it some love that won't break the bank.

Try a yoga pose to relieve gas

“This pose applies gentle stimulating pressure to the abdomen to relieve tension,” explains yoga teacher Gabriella Espinoza from the online platform Movementformodernlife.com.

“Lie on your back, bend your knees and hug them to your chest one at a time.

“Hold the front of your shin to the bent leg, pressing it to your chest. While breathing steadily, hold for five to ten breaths, and gently rock side to side.

“Release your legs, straighten them out, and relax.”

Incorporate turmeric

“Turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties that can alleviate discomfort, reduce bloating, and improve digestion,” notes dietitian Melanie Dixon from Vitaminology.

To make a turmeric drink, place one cup of milk, 1 tsp of coconut oil, 1/4 tsp of turmeric, and 1 tsp of ground ginger into a blender and blend until smooth.

Pour into a saucepan, bring to a boil, and serve hot. Add honey for sweetness if desired.

Lie on your left side

“Some of the largest organs in the body, such as the liver, surround and press against the stomach,” Melanie clarifies. “By lying on your left side, you allow your stomach to feel more comfortable.

“The valve through which food passes from the stomach to the small intestine is located on the right side of the lower abdomen. By lying on your left side, you relieve pressure on this valve to ease its function.”

Tips for caring for your stomach can help you feel better and alleviate discomfort associated with stomach problems. Regular physical activity, a balanced diet, and healthy habits in stomach care can positively impact your well-being and quality of life.
