November 29: What holiday is today, traditions and prohibitions.
On this day, the World Ant Eater Day, International Jaguar Day, International Day of Women Human Rights Defenders, Electronic Greetings Day, and International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People are celebrated.
International Day of Women Human Rights Defenders
Today we honor women who protect people's rights, as well as girls, women, and the LGBT community. This day was created not only for recognition but also to show the responsibility of the state in ensuring the rights of these defenders and protecting the rights of others.
Often, women human rights defenders face violence, harassment, and even imprisonment simply because they stand guard over equality and human rights. According to the United Nations Human Rights Organization, the number of murders and attacks on women human rights defenders is increasing. They face persecution, gender-based violence, slander, and other manifestations of intolerance because they advocate for justice, dignity, and accountability.
What religious holiday is today
On November 29, the memory of Fulvian, a prince who tortured Levi Matthew, is honored. However, seeing the miracles of the apostle, he believed in God and, having accepted holy baptism, named himself Matthew. After this, Fulvian renounced power and became a priest and bishop in the city of Mirmena.
Today also honors the memory of Saint Martyr Paramon of Vithynia. Together with 370 other martyrs, he became a victim of persecution for his faith in Christ in the year 250, during the reign of Emperor Decius. The emperor ordered their imprisonment and forced them to renounce Christianity through torture. Paramon, as a local, endured the torments inflicted on his companions. He openly opposed the cruelty of the emperor, affirming his faith in the One God. After this, he and other Christians were subjected to a death sentence.
