These words should not be said to soldiers: how not to hurt the defender after the front.
Participants of the war often face misunderstandings from citizens. Some words and phrases can be very offensive to a person who has returned from the front. That is why it is important to be careful in communication with soldiers to avoid offensive remarks.
What not to say to a soldier
'Why did you go to war?'
This question can offend a defender who decided to protect his country and its citizens. This phrase indicates disrespect for the soldier's choice and his deed.
'We didn't send you there'
This phrase can also cause offense. For soldiers, it is a matter of respect and acknowledgment of their choice to protect the Ukrainian people.
'You have become different/worse'
After the front, soldiers may change, adapting to new conditions. However, this phrase can hurt the defender, as he still remains the same person who selflessly defends the country.
'What did you feel when you killed?'
Questions about killing can be triggers for soldiers, evoking negative memories and emotions. It is better to avoid this in communication with soldiers.
'But you get paid for it'
It is not worth reminding soldiers about their salary, as they risk their lives daily for our safety. Money is not the main thing for people who put their lives on the line.
Let's remember that earlier we wrote about what phrases should not be said to a woman waiting for her husband from the front. We also talked about what soldiers never tell anyone—even their closest ones.
The return of soldiers from the front can be a difficult period, and it is important to remember which phrases can offend defenders and evoke negative emotions. Respect, support, and understanding are the key components in communication with soldiers who risked their lives for the defense of Ukraine.Read also
