Nuclear Program: Iran Announces Readiness for Talks with the USA.
Supreme Leader of Iran Announced the Possibility of Communicating with the USA on the Nuclear Program
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, stated that the government of Iran can communicate with the "enemy," referring to the USA and the issue of the Iranian nuclear program. He set clear red lines for any negotiations, noting that Washington should not be trusted. "There is nothing wrong with this, but do not place hopes on them," Khamenei said.
Ayatollah Khamenei also warned the cabinet of reformist President Masoud Pezeshkian about the need not to trust the "enemy." He called for talks with Washington at the initial stage but withdrew from them after the USA pulled out of the deal in 2018.
In recent years, negotiations between Iran and the USA have been mediated by Oman and Qatar, but Khamenei's statement came on the day of the visit of Qatar's Prime Minister to Iran.
The US State Department responded by saying that it would judge Iran's leadership by their actions and not by their words. They noted that diplomacy is the best way to reach a solution on Iran's nuclear program, but the situation is far from that right now.
