The vessel is being protected by Russian naval ships, including the destroyer 'Severomorsk' and the 7,500-ton rescue and patrol vessel 'Voevoda.' Measuring 82 meters in length, the Graceful had not been publicly sighted since it was added to the U.S. sanctions list.

While transiting the Danish Strait, the yacht activated its automatic identification system. Notably, the Graceful had been moved from the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg to the Kaliningrad exclave just 17 days before Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
