Recommendations for residents of high-rise buildings from rescuers

According to ТСН: Residents of high-rise buildings have received important advice from rescuers on how to act during emergencies such as attacks by Russian drones or fires when the doors are blocked. Experts emphasized that there are safe ways to evacuate and stressed the importance of staying calm.

This was discussed in the broadcast of the TV channel “We are Ukraine.”

“We move to the next room, definitely closing the door behind us, isolating ourselves from the influence of hazardous harmful substances and thermal radiation,”
said inspector Yurii Osmyna of the Vyshgorod District Department of the State Emergency Service in the Kyiv region.

He also added that it is important to open a window for fresh air access and to call rescuers at number 101. If there is no phone nearby, one should call for help loudly from the window to draw the attention of those around.

Small fires can be attempted to be extinguished independently if a prepared fire extinguisher is available—foam, water, or powder type. Rescuers also emphasized that entrance doors should not be locked during attacks to facilitate access for rescuers and speed up assistance.

For safe exit from the room during a fire, one must stay low to the floor since smoke rises. The respiratory organs should be covered with fabric for protection.

Using the elevator is strictly forbidden; one must descend only by stairs. In stressful situations, one should not jump from windows—a balcony can serve as a temporary shelter.

Do not forget these important recommendations during shelling and other emergencies. Correct actions can save lives.
