Turmeric remains in the body for up to two days: how to enhance its effect.
According to ТСН: Turmeric can remain in the body from one to two days, but the time of its elimination depends on the form, dosage, and individual characteristics of a person.
Such data are presented in a new study.
Curcumin, the active component of turmeric, has low bioavailability, which means its absorption is not very effective. However, there are methods that can improve its absorption:
Piperine (a component of black pepper) significantly increases the absorption of curcumin. If these two components are consumed together, the level of curcumin in the blood can increase more than 20 times.
Fats also aid in absorption: it is beneficial to combine turmeric with avocado, nuts, seeds, or fatty fish. Some supplements contain fats to improve absorption.
How often to take turmeric supplements
The frequency of consumption depends on the purpose. For example, in cases of joint inflammation, specialists recommend 500 mg of curcumin twice a day. However, regular intake of supplements is not recommended: they are usually taken in courses lasting no longer than 2-3 months. It is best to discuss the optimal intake schedule with a doctor.
Health benefits of turmeric
Turmeric contains compounds called curcuminoids, with curcumin being the most significant one.
However, curcumin is poorly absorbed into the blood. To achieve a better effect, it is important to improve its bioavailability, which indicates the rate of absorption of a substance by the body. Curcumin gives turmeric its flavor and healing properties.
This substance may be useful in oxidative and inflammatory conditions, metabolic syndrome, arthritis, anxiety, and hyperlipidemia.
Curcumin can be used in cases of muscle inflammation and pain that occur due to physical exertion, improving recovery and performance.
Most of these benefits can be explained by its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory action. Curcumin is a powerful antioxidant capable of neutralizing free radicals due to its chemical structure.
This biologically active substance helps fight inflammation, although it is important to remember that achieving a therapeutic effect requires very high doses, which can be harmful to the body.
It was previously reported that black cumin seeds have properties beneficial for combating obesity. The extract of these seeds significantly reduces lipid accumulation in a cellular model without showing toxicity.
Thus, turmeric, and specifically curcumin, are rightly considered important means of supporting health due to their powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Using them correctly can lead to significant improvement in strengthening the body, especially in cases of inflammation and stress. A clear understanding of how and when to consume turmeric will help maximize its health benefits.
