How to Stay Online During a Blackout: Working Methods.
According to ТСН: During power outages, many Ukrainians face issues accessing the Internet, which is necessary for urgent matters. We offer an overview of possible ways to connect to the Network during this difficult time.
Fiber Optic Internet
Fiber optic Internet is provided through optical lines (glass fiber). If the provider has a stable power supply, you will get access to the Internet, as most providers install batteries that support operation for several hours.
Fiber optics can be brought to both private and multi-apartment buildings. Look for providers that use FTTB, FTTH, PON, GPON connection technologies. In Ukraine, most providers implement fiber optic lines.
Telephone Network
To connect to the Internet, you can purchase two cable adapters that connect to the power of Wi-Fi and ADSL/VDSL routers.
Mobile Internet with Amplifier
This option is suitable for those who use home Internet from mobile providers and have a 3G/4G Wi-Fi router. If you manage to catch even a weak signal during the power outage, you can amplify it. Position the antenna as high as possible (less interference means better signal), connect the equipment to an uninterruptible power supply, and use the Internet. The cost of an amplifier starts from 1500 UAH.
Sometimes due to power outages, the quality of the connection deteriorates — the number of ‘bars’ on the phone decreases. To improve the quality of mobile signal, you can use the following recommendations:
Purchase a Wi-Fi repeater that is compatible with your phone model.
Install the device on your gadget.
Download CellTower Locator.
CellTower Locator is an application that helps find the nearest cell tower. After that, you just need to point the antenna in its direction, catch the signal, and use the Internet.
In conditions of unstable electricity supply, the issue of access to the Internet becomes particularly relevant. As seen from the overview, there are several ways to use the network even during outages. It is important to choose the appropriate option considering your needs and available resources.
