How Trump Can End the War in Ukraine - Media.
US President Donald Trump promised to end the war in Ukraine in one day. This promise was one of the key points during his election campaign, reports Foreign Affairs.
The situation on the battlefield does not favor a peace agreement. To end the war, one side must win or a stalemate must be reached. Currently, neither side has an advantage, but the war is not over yet.
Dictator Putin is convinced he is winning. If Putin feels that Trump and his administration are trying to stop the war, he will become even more aggressive.
The publication suggests that Trump should develop a complex plan in which Ukraine gives up part of its territory in favor of Russia, but receives security by joining NATO. This will lead to stable peace. Trump needs to accelerate military aid to Ukraine and provide more weapons to stop Russia.
Putin must believe that the US will not abandon Ukraine. Trump must also convince Zelensky to end the war, even if it means giving up certain territories.
According to Foreign Affairs, Ukraine's immediate accession to NATO could compensate for territorial concessions. Trump must personally demonstrate his support so that other NATO countries do not drag out the ratification process. All possibilities should be utilized to conclude a peace agreement.
Ukraine's accession to NATO will strengthen the alliance and bring it economic benefits. Ukraine can also supply drones to other NATO countries for protection.
Trump wants to showcase his diplomatic skills in resolving the conflict and possibly receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
'Neither Putin nor Zelensky will be easy to persuade to come to the negotiating table. But endless war or capitulation to Putin would be worse,' the publication concludes.
