According to ТСН: In Ukraine, demand for goods traditionally increases at the end of the year. This is related to preparations for the New Year and Christmas holidays.

Changes in food prices

Economist Volodymyr Chyzh commented that in December, the demand for meat products usually rises, which leads to price increases of 5-10%.

“Considering purchasing power, the meat segment does not show sharp jumps, but the pre-holiday load traditionally gives short-term growth. Pork may rise the most - by up to 10% due to active demand for dishes for the festive table,” he said.

According to the expert, the price of chicken will remain stable as production compensates for seasonal fluctuations.

“Beef shows moderate but stable demand growth, so price increases are expected to be within 3-6%,” he added.

During the pre-holiday period, maximum demand is observed for sausages, ham, salami, and other delicacies.

In December, prices may increase by 8-12%, especially for medium and premium segment products. For budget sausages, price fluctuations will be minimal,” he noted.

The economist also noted that imported fish (salmon, trout, mackerel) may rise in price by 10-15% due to increased demand before the holidays.

According to him, the price of Ukrainian fish (carp or bream) usually increases by up to 5%, especially closer to Christmas.

Fruits, especially citrus fruits (oranges, mandarins, lemons), traditionally become more expensive in December. An increase in prices of 10-15% is forecasted.

“Ukrainian apples and pears may rise in price by only 3-5%, depending on their storage conditions. Bananas respond to the exchange rate. Therefore, their price may rise by 5-8%,” he specified.

Chyzh also added that the prices of traditional soup vegetables are usually more stable as they are stored in large quantities.

It was previously reported that before Christmas in Ukraine, a decrease in prices for dairy products is possible, but this is forecasted as a short-term phenomenon.

These changes in the food market in Ukraine, caused by increased demand ahead of the holidays, may significantly impact consumers' budgets. Trends of rising prices for staple products indicate traditional pre-holiday fluctuations that should be considered when planning purchases in the coming months.
