What church holiday is celebrated tomorrow according to the new calendar
Tomorrow, on December 5, the believers celebrate the memorial day of Saint Sava the Holy. Sava was born in 439 in Cappadocia, in a pious family. According to church traditions, his parents often left the boy during military campaigns in the care of relatives, which sometimes led to conflicts. To avoid family disputes, Sava decided at the age of nine to go to the Flaviania Monastery, where he showed humility, obedience, and spiritual maturity.
At the age of 17, he went to Palestine, which was then the center of monastic life, where he lived in the Monastery of Saint Euthymius the Great, and after his death in the Monastery of Saint Theoctistus. Later, Sava went to the desert, where he spent many years in solitude, fasting, and prayer.
In 483, he founded his famous monastery - the Great Monastery, now known as Mar Saba, which became the center of spiritual life in Palestine. Sava actively opposed heresies, especially Monophysitism, and made diplomatic visits to Constantinople, where he met with Emperors Anastasius and Justin I to defend the Orthodox faith.
Saint Sava died on December 5, 532, at the age of almost ninety-three. His relics remained in Constantinople for a long time and were ceremoniously returned to the Mar Saba Monastery in the late 20th century.
