New dog walking rules from autumn 2025: the threat of fines and confiscation.
According to inkorr.com: In Ukraine, there are reminders about
dog walking rulesthat will come into effect in autumn 2025. Owners face not only fines but also the risk of losing their beloved pet for violations. This was reported by Novyny.LIVE.
Categories of dogs in Ukraine
According to the law, all dogs in Ukraine are divided into three categories:
- decorative – small domestic breeds;
- non-pedigree – with no defined origin;
- potentially dangerous – those that may pose a threat to people or other animals.
Dog walking rules
Dogs classified as potentially dangerous must be on a leash and muzzled. They may be walked only in designated areas, away from playgrounds and crowded zones. Even small dogs must be on a leash to prevent dangerous situations – this ensures safety for both passersby and the animal itself.
Fines for violating dog walking rules
Violations of these norms
are subject to fines. If a dog is walked without a muzzle or leash, the owner can receive a fine ranging from 17 to 51 hryvnias. In the case of repeated violations, the matter may go to court, which carries the risk of losing the animal. If a dog bites someone or damages someone else's property, the fine can increase to several hundred hryvnias, and sometimes it results in legal proceedings.
Experts advise owners to take precautions in advance. Firstly, it is advisable to obtain insurance for the dog – this can help avoid financial losses in the event of an incident. Secondly, microchipping the animal ensures its quick return in case of escape or loss.
Adhering to dog walking rules is not only a legal issue but also a demonstration of responsibility towards society and one's pet.
It was previously reported that in Odesa
they celebrated the birthday of a dognamed Lukas. The owners organized a celebration for their beloved pet in an elite restaurant, where Lukas arrived in a white limousine.
This initiative for regulating dog walking aims to enhance safety in public spaces and the responsibility of pet owners. The laws being introduced are meant to ensure a comfortable coexistence between people and animals in cities, and adherence to them will be an important step in creating a pet-friendly society.
