Apple refuses Sony: Samsung becomes the new supplier of cameras for iPhone.

The tech giant plans to end its exclusive partnership with the Japanese company Sony in the field of photo sensors for the first time in a long time.

The new key partner for Apple will be the Korean company Samsung, which is a major competitor in the smartphone market.

Why Apple needs Samsung

The reason for this strategic shift lies in the innovative developments of Korean engineers. Apple is interested in Samsung's advanced CMOS sensor (CIS) technology, which utilizes a unique three-layer hybrid structure.

This architecture involves the complex layering of three components:

• photo diode plate;

• transistors;

• analog-to-digital converters.

This solution allows for a reduction in pixel size while simultaneously lowering the level of digital noise. This will ensure a significant improvement in photo quality in low light conditions, expand the dynamic range and speed up data processing. Such technology has not been used in smartphones on this scale before.

To fulfill this ambitious order, Samsung has already begun extensive preparations. The production of new sensors will focus on the factory in Austin, Texas, USA.

The Korean giant also informed local authorities of its intentions to invest a large sum — 19 billion dollars. This money will go towards repairs, modernization of the factory, and the purchase of modern equipment.

Samsung is actively hiring engineers and managers to set up new production lines and create specialized 'clean rooms.' It is expected that the upgraded facilities will start operating as early as March next year.
