Accident on the Sewer: Chernihiv Authorities Declared an Emergency.
An accident occurred on the sewer collector in Chernihiv, and therefore an emergency situation has been declared at the local level. This was reported by the acting mayor, Oleksandr Lomako.
Accident on the sewer collector on Hlibova Street - local level emergency
Lomako noted that this decision was made at an operational meeting of the city commission.
According to the acting mayor, employees of KP "Chernihivvodokanal" are working at the accident site and are determining the location of the collector's damage. Detailed information on the damage will be known in the morning of October 5 and will help in decision-making to eliminate the accident.
Lomako emphasized that due to the accident, 15 booster stations have been shut down, so water is not being supplied above the fifth floor. The heads of housing department offices and condominium associations have been tasked with providing access for residents of multi-story buildings to premises where they can fetch water. "Chernihivvodokanal" also delivers water to these neighborhoods.
In addition, a sewage pump station is in operation, and illegal constructions on the collector route are being dismantled.
The acting mayor advises making a water supply stock for at least one day. Residents will be further informed about the situation.
Lomako noted that the collector on Hlibova Street, with a diameter of 700 mm and a length of 7.7 km, was built in the 1970s and has already exhausted its resource. In 2019, there was a significant accident there, and an inspection showed that the condition of the collector threatens the ecology and functioning of the city.
The solution is a complete replacement of the collector since its upper part is damaged by gas corrosion.
We remind that due to war and mobilization, there is a shortage of municipal workers in Kyiv. This was reported by the city's mayor, Vitaliy Klitschko. Currently, the city lacks 6,500 municipal workers, including drivers and builders. All this is due to war and mobilization. According to the mayor, there is also a shortage of drivers, subway operators, builders, and housing and utility workers. "We ensure the functioning of our city with a limited number of workers, but we are also doing everything to train women in men's professions," added the mayor.
