Berlin Airport Stops Operations Due to Drones: Dozens of Flights Redirected.
According to inkorr.com: On Friday evening at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER), air traffic was temporarily halted for nearly two hours due to the detection of unidentified drones. This incident occurred against the backdrop of similar cases at other European airports. Take-offs and landings were suspended from 20:08 to 21:58 local time.
According to the airport spokesperson, 'a whole series of flights' were redirected to other German cities during the closure. Flights, including those to Basel, Oslo, and Barcelona, could not depart. A plane from London had to be diverted to Hamburg.
Witnesses reported seeing a drone around 20:00, which led to the closure of the northern runway. Police also recorded the drone, but could not locate it. To mitigate potential danger, a police helicopter and the German Federal Aviation Authority were involved. The airport had to lift the nighttime flight ban to reduce the impact of the delay.
Ban on Drone Use Around German Airports
Drone use is prohibited within a radius of 1.5 kilometers from German airports. Unauthorized flights are considered dangerous and can lead to severe penalties. Travelers are advised to check the status of their flights with airlines.
This incident highlights the importance of adhering to safety regulations in airport areas. The ban on drone use in the immediate vicinity of airports is a critical measure to ensure the safety of air traffic and reduce the risks of dangerous situations. Travelers must be more vigilant and verify information about their flights, as such delays can negatively impact their plans.
