Bloomberg revealed Orban's plans if Trump wins.
Donald Trump's victory in the presidential elections could make Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban the best ally of the next US president, Bloomberg notes. They write about this on their website.
At a Time when protesters opposed the victory of the pro-Russian leadership in Georgia, Viktor Orban congratulated the country on deciding not to become the next Ukraine. According to a source familiar with the course of thoughts in Budapest, the victory of his ally Donald Trump could make Orban the key figure in Europe for the next US president. Given the conflict in Ukraine, Europe's security, and trade relations with China, the Hungarian prime minister is enjoying this prospect.
Zsuzsanna Végh of the German Marshall Fund in Berlin noted that foreign policy is aimed at "regime survival." According to her, if Trump returns to the White House, Orban may feel "vindicated, seeing a leader with a similar political profile at the helm of the most powerful country on the planet."
Bloomberg notes that the 61-year-old Orban secured the role of leader of the continent's nationalists during the refugee crisis in 2015 when he built a fence along Hungary's southern border and portrayed himself as the defender of Christian Europe. However, what unites Orban and Trump the most is that the Hungarian prime minister believes that the world is run (and should be run) by leaders who make behind-the-scenes deals, not institutions that ensure accountability and transparency.
Attention is also drawn to the fact that the US elections will occur before Orban hosts two European summits in Budapest next week. The victory of Democrat Kamala Harris could help Europe increase pressure on Orban. If Trump wins, some EU diplomats fear that Orban might invite him to one of the meetings.
Recall, Orban criticized Zelensky's "victory plan" and called for peace talks.
