Court Convicts Man for Organizing Illegal Border Crossing
According to Novyny.live: A court in Bolgrad has sentenced a 51-year-old resident of the Kubei community to seven years in prison for organizing the illegal departure of a conscription-age man to Moldova. The perpetrator attempted to smuggle the man across the border for a fee of $8,000. This case is part of Ukraine's broader effort to enforce martial law and prevent evasion of military service during the ongoing conflict.
The court found him guilty under Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. In addition to the prison term, the man is banned from holding public office for two years. The preventive measure applied to the defendant is detention with the possibility of bail, set at over 242,000 hryvnias.
Crackdown on Evasion of Military Service
This case underscores the severe penalties for illegally transporting individuals eligible for military service out of the country and highlights law enforcement's ongoing efforts to combat such crimes. The Main Directorate of the National Police in the Odesa region continues to monitor these situations to ensure compliance with the law.
Given the current wartime context, such court rulings serve as a stark warning to other potential offenders and demonstrate the state's serious commitment to upholding national security measures.
