Boris Johnson proposes three steps for Ukraine's victory, - The Spectator.
Boris Johnson, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, called for Ukraine's immediate accession to NATO in his article for The Spectator. He argues his position by the necessity to stop the war and prevent further casualties among Ukrainians.
Johnson talks about his visit to a rehabilitation center in Kyiv, where he met with wounded Ukrainian soldiers. He notes that compared to last year, there are more young people and women among the casualties. This meeting prompted him to think about how to accelerate Ukraine's victory and reduce the number of casualties.
When you look at the mutilated bodies of these soldiers, you see a terrible indictment of our sluggishness
Johnson strongly opposes arguments about the 'escalation' of the conflict, which are often used to justify delays in providing assistance to Ukraine.
Johnson proposes three steps to achieve Ukraine's victory:
- Provide Ukraine with the right to use the weapons it already has without restrictions.
- Develop a loan package for Ukraine similar to the lend-lease program of World War II, ranging from half a trillion to three trillion dollars.
- Admit Ukraine to NATO immediately, even before the end of the war.
Regarding the last point, Johnson explains that this can be done to extend security guarantees of Article 5 to the entire Ukrainian territory currently controlled by Ukraine.
Boris Johnson is confident that Ukraine's accession to NATO will be a decisive step to end the war and bring peace and stability to the region. He calls on world leaders to support this initiative.
