Borodianka Tests 5G to Power Its Recovery: A Community Transformed by High-Speed Internet.
5G Technology Trial Begins in Borodianka
According to TSN.ua: The town of Borodianka, one of the most severely damaged communities in the Kyiv region due to hostilities and occupation, has initiated a 5G technology trial. This project aims to support infrastructure recovery and the development of digital services. The test zone covers an area of approximately 3.5 km², providing local residents with access to high-speed internet for the first time since the conflict. This initiative is part of a broader effort to rebuild with modern technology from the ground up.
The new 5G network is expected to deliver data transfer speeds ranging from 600-700 Mbps up to 1.5-1.7 Gbps. Operating on the 3500 MHz frequency band, the technology will provide high performance and stable connectivity. To access the 5G network, users will need:
- A smartphone compatible with 5G technology;
- A USIM card;
- To be within the 5G coverage area.
Furthermore, Borodianka's network will support inbound roaming for foreign subscribers, offering an added benefit for international visitors and aid workers coming to the community.
Oleksandr Komarov noted that the launch of 5G in Borodianka opens the possibility of integrating modern digital solutions directly into the infrastructure rebuilding phase.
This pilot will serve as a test case for how new technologies can aid communities during recovery. It is important to note that a full-scale nationwide rollout of 5G in Ukraine is only possible after the war concludes, highlighting how stability is a prerequisite for the country's broader digital development.
The Role of Digitalization in Regional Recovery
The introduction of 5G in Borodianka represents a significant step in the region's post-war rehabilitation and could set a precedent for other affected areas. Implementing cutting-edge technology during reconstruction can not only improve residents' quality of life but also help attract investment to the region. This underscores the critical importance of digitalization in Ukraine's overall recovery process, particularly given the need for a stable foundation to develop future infrastructure and services.
