British physiotherapist sets speed record for crossing Antarctica.
British-Indian Harpreet Kaur 'Preet' Chandi, a physiotherapist and medical officer of the British army, has become the first woman to quickly traverse Antarctica on skis alone. She covered 1130 km of Antarctic ice in 31 days, 13 hours and 19 minutes, beating the previous record set by Canadian Caroline Cote by one day, 14 hours and 34 minutes.
'I am tired, but so glad I did it. Antarctica is an amazing place, and being here is an absolute privilege. It is not a place that can be conquered by just anyone; it is a place you approach with respect and hope that it allows you to pass safely,' said Harpreet Chandi.
Let us remind you that the Nоosphere set off for Antarctica on November 17. The Ukrainian research icebreaker Nоosphere has begun its third Antarctic season.
The Ukrainian icebreaker embarked on its third Antarctic season as British Harpreet Chandi set a record for traversing Antarctica on skis in 31 days. It is interesting to observe how athletes and scientists tackle the challenges of existence in the extreme conditions of this unique place on our planet.
