A British couple arrested for bathing in Venice
According to inkorr.com: A British couple's vacation in Venice ended unexpectedly: they were bathing in the Grand Canal and received a hefty fine and were forced to leave the city for 48 hours. This was reported by
Hromadskeciting CNN.
The incident occurred near the Accademia Bridge, not far from St. Mark's Square. A 35-year-old man and his 25-year-old girlfriend were forced to leave Venice on the day they arrived. Local gondoliers, who witnessed their bathing, called the authorities.
Fine and measures against 'overtourism'
Deputy Chief of Venice Police, Gianni Franco, reported that the couple was fined 450 euros each. This is the 1136th case of rule violations this year affecting tourists. Venice's city council members on safety noted that it is necessary to protect the city from disrespect. Order is needed for both locals and visitors who must behave civilly.
- 10 euro fee for entry on weekends and holidays;
- ban on tour groups larger than 25 people;
- ban on the use of loudspeakers;
- ban on standing on narrow streets to listen to guides.
These measures are aimed at promoting a more sustainable form of tourism that allows for the protection of the city and its residents.
Violations of diving norms by tourists from Great Britain led to fines and a temporary ban on their stay in the city. Local authorities are tightening control over visitors to ensure tidy tourism and protect the environment.
Venice is actively taking measures to control tourists to preserve the uniqueness and beauty of this historic city. The increasing number of rule violations indicates the need to mitigate the impact of 'overtourism', which can damage cultural and environmental values.Read also
