Brussels Airport Closed Due to Drone: All Flights Suspended

According to inkorr.com: On the evening of November 4, Brussels International Airport stopped operations due to reports of a drone being detected in its airspace. This was reported by Reuters.

According to RTBF data, several drones were spotted in the sky over Belgium, particularly near the Brussels and Liège airports. Airport representatives and the Belgian air traffic management service confirmed that all flights have been suspended, and currently no aircraft are taking off or landing.

The incident occurred around 19:00 GMT when an unmanned aerial vehicle was spotted near Brussels Airport. The decision to close the airport was made for safety reasons.

The press service of Liège Airport also reported a temporary halt in operations due to the detection of drones. Currently, checks are ongoing, and there is no information yet on how long the airport closures will last.

Criticism of EU Actions

Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary criticized the leadership of the European Union for insufficient measures to combat drones disrupting airport operations. He calls for the destruction of such unmanned aerial vehicles.

It should be noted that on October 31, air traffic at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport (BER) was temporarily suspended for nearly two hours due to the detection of unidentified drones.

Ongoing Security Threat

The situation with the closure of Brussels Airport highlights the seriousness of the threat that drones pose to aviation and security. It requires effective measures to detect and neutralize drones to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The events in Brussels again draw attention to an important safety issue in aviation, as increasing instances of drone sightings hinder the normal functioning of airports. The response of European institutions, as well as an update of regulations for unmanned aerial vehicles, may become necessary steps to ensure flight safety in the future.
