Budanov Appointed to Head the Presidential Office: How This Will Affect the War and Negotiations.
According to ТСН: Despite military actions, the new year in Ukraine has brought active political appointments and changes. One of the key decisions has been the appointment of Kyrylo Budanov, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, as the head of the Presidential Office.
Impact of the Appointment on Ending the War
Political scientist Volodymyr Fesenko believes that Budanov's appointment will not have a significant impact on ending the war.
“Any appointment, except for the Lord God, will not affect the end of the war, because it does not depend on personnel decisions in Ukraine. It directly depends on the situation in Russia, as well as the military situation. One appointment does not solve all issues and certainly will not give an immediate and swift effect...”
The Logic of the New Appointment
Fesenko notes that there is a certain logic in this appointment related to negotiations. Americans view this change positively, as Budanov has experience in both security matters and in negotiations with Russia.
“Budanov's appointment is positively received by the Americans. Budanov is a person who understands the military situation and has strategic thinking...”
The Main Motive - Strengthening Power
Fesenko emphasizes that the main motive for the appointment is internal political stability and demonstrating the president's strength. He believes Budanov will be a tool to curb the activity of the NABU.
“I think the main motive for Budanov's appointment was still internal political...”
A Guarantee of Security
Fesenko also notes that Budanov is perceived as an important figure among law enforcement.
“I think everyone in the NABU and not only there understands that Budanov is a serious person, and one must be more cautious here...”
Rotations in Law Enforcement Structures
The political scientist emphasizes significant rotations in law enforcement structures that may impact control over security forces in Ukraine.
“Attention - all key figures... in new positions...”
A Signal to Political Elites
Volodymyr Fesenko believes that these changes serve as a signal to political elites: power remains in the hands of the president.
“This is a signal that he is not leaving, not weakening, but controlling the power system...”
The appointment of Kyrylo Budanov as head of the Presidential Office is driven not only by the situation in the country but also by strategic interests. American partners, acknowledging his experience, hope for an increase in the effectiveness of the negotiation process. At the same time, within the country, this decision is intended to demonstrate political unity and stability, which is particularly relevant in the face of military challenges.
