Photos and videos show the Danube River flooding the Budapest embankment and the Hungarian Parliament itself. Thanks to the spread of these materials on social media, it became known that the river has overflowed its banks.
Floods are devastating large territories in Africa and Central Europe. Scientists believe that such events are a consequence of global warming. These floods have claimed many lives and caused building destruction from Austria to Romania. Heavy rains also affected other countries worldwide last week, flooding villages in Myanmar and causing over a million people in Nigeria to lose their homes. Czech President Petr Pavel stated that recovery of the affected areas will take him months or even years.
