According to ТСН: In the French Alps, hundreds of cars have become stuck on the roads leading to popular ski resorts. As a result, nearly 800 people were forced to spend the night in the sports halls of the town of Moutiers, located in the Savoie region.

Situation in Moutiers and Val Thorens

According to local authorities, about 800 individuals spent the night in three sports halls in Moutiers, an important transport hub for tourists traveling to the Savoie resorts. In the morning, they were allowed to continue their journeys.

In mountainous areas, the situation has also been tense. At the Val Thorens resort, 29 people managed to leave the area only on Sunday after spending the night in a mountain shelter.

According to the gendarmerie, about 40 people spent part of the night on a bus that was heading to the Arc 2000 resort, also located in Savoie.

Deaths of skiers

The French authorities are urging caution across almost all alpine ridges, as the meteorological service has announced the highest level of avalanche danger.

On Saturday, three skiers died in Savoie, who were skiing off prepared tracks. Two avalanches occurred at the Val d'Isère resort, and another in the Areches-Beaufort area.

The bodies of two men, who did not have avalanche beacons, were found by rescuers only thanks to signals from their mobile phones beneath the snow.

In Areches-Beaufort, one skier died, while another was rescued after the patrol heard cries for help. The victim, in serious condition, was taken to the hospital.

Landslides in the Alps

Earlier, it was also reported that in the Alps, the Swiss village of Blatten was almost completely destroyed due to the collapse of part of the Birch glacier, leading to a powerful landslide.

Additionally, in the Alps, Swiss researchers are conducting controlled earthquakes to study tectonic forces.

This situation highlights the dangers faced by tourists in mountainous areas, especially during unstable weather conditions. Authorities are urging caution and strict adherence to safety on snowy trails to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
