Peace Negotiations with Russia: What Ukraine Can Gain and What to Give.
Negotiations on a Peace Agreement between Ukraine and Russia
According to ТСН: During discussions on the possibility of a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia, the focus is not on imposing an agreement but on clarifying the expectations and capabilities of both sides.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who leads the American negotiation team, emphasized:
“To achieve a settlement through negotiations, two things are needed: both sides must gain something and both sides must give something. We are trying to understand what Russia can give and what it expects to gain, what Ukraine can give and what it can expect. Ultimately, the decision will be up to Ukraine and Russia, not the United States.”
Rubio also noted that many meetings are being held and much time is spent to determine the possibility of such an intersection.
“I think we have made progress, but we still have a long way to go, and, obviously, the most difficult questions are always the last ones,” he stressed.
Moreover, U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matt Whitaker noted that the administration of President Donald Trump would do everything possible for a peaceful settlement, but Ukraine must be prepared for the continuation of the conflict in the coming year.
These negotiations reflect the complex and tense situation in eastern Ukraine, where attempts to reduce tension remain particularly important. Mutual understanding between the parties may be the key to achieving lasting peace. However, as practice shows, achieving consensus on such matters is always accompanied by serious difficulties.
