Ukraine's Defense Ministry Launches 24-Month Contract for Rear-Echelon Troops: Here’s the Pay Breakdown.
New Standard Contract for Support Personnel
According to Novyny.live: The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has introduced a fresh standard contract for service members assigned to rear-area duties. This agreement runs for 24 months and outlines a structured payment system along with deferment accrual rules. Its primary goal is to create better conditions for clerks, mechanics, accountants, cooks, and other specialists who keep the Armed Forces of Ukraine operational.
The contract’s 24-month duration marks a significant step in supporting military personnel. Service members are guaranteed a basic deferment of six months after completing their contract service. Notably, this deferment can be extended: each day spent on combat missions adds an extra deferment day, and every year of service prior to 2022 grants one additional month. These provisions aim to recognize both frontline exposure and long-term dedication.
Payment Structure
Under the new terms, the base pay rate is set at 20,000 hryvnias. An additional 10,000 hryvnias is provided for rear-area task performance, bringing the total minimum compensation to 30,000 hryvnias. For those signing their first contract, monthly pay may range from 27,000 to 33,000 hryvnias, depending on military rank. Eligible Ukrainians have been able to officially sign these new contracts with the Defense Forces since June 15, 2023.
Rolling out this contract for rear-echelon personnel represents a key milestone in Ukraine’s military reform efforts. The decision highlights a growing focus on supporting not just combat units but also the logistics and administrative backbone that are critical to national defense. With its enhanced pay and deferment system, the initiative could serve as a strong incentive to attract and retain skilled professionals—an especially pressing need during wartime.
