The USA rejected a forceful scenario for Greenland: what Rubio stated.
According to ТСН: The United States of America does not intend to resort to force to control Greenland. This information was confirmed by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot after a conversation with his American counterpart.
In Paris, calls for calm and caution regarding assessments of Washington's intentions were made. Barrot emphasized that statements from the USA should be taken seriously, but should not be exaggerated.
Negotiations on possible aggression
A key moment of the phone conversation was the question of a possible military operation.
“I spoke on the phone yesterday with the Secretary of State, with the head of diplomacy of the United States of America. He confirmed that this is not the approach supported by the United States. He ruled out the possibility that what just happened in Venezuela would happen in Greenland,”- said the French minister on the air of radio France Inter.
The French foreign ministry also commented on the idea of a military attack on an ally. Barrot noted that aggression against another NATO member country makes no sense and would contradict the national interests of the United States.
Paris reminded of the importance of the USA in transatlantic security.
“The United States of America, until further notice, are very committed to the transatlantic alliance, NATO, to which they have contributed to supporting European security and from which they have received dividends and exceptional profits,”- emphasized the diplomat.
Barrot also clearly outlined Europe's position on the status of the island, stating that “Greenland is not for sale.”
It is worth remembering that after the military operation in Venezuela, Donald Trump expressed the opinion that he “really needs Greenland” due to the strategic significance of this island for the defense of the USA, as it is surrounded by Russian and Chinese ships. The American leader emphasized the importance of Greenland for the country's security.
This situation indicates the presence of tension in relations between the USA and its allies in the context of strategic control over territories and resources. At the same time, France's clear assurances clarify Europe's position on the inadmissibility of forceful solutions to conflicts and emphasize the importance of diplomatic dialogue.
