Diesel prices have skyrocketed: reasons for the sharp increase named

According to inkorr.com: After several weeks of stability, the cost of diesel fuel in Ukraine has sharply increased again. According to data from the consulting group 'A-95', from October 20 to October 24, the average price rose by 3.37 UAH/l — to 49.29 UAH/l, with most of this increase occurring in the last two days. Why diesel has become more expensive

Analysts point to several factors that have influenced the price increase:

  • Rising global quotations. As of October 24, the price of Brent crude oil reached $66.6 per barrel, and the ICE Gasoil quotation was $711 per ton, adding over 3 UAH/l to the cost of fuel.

  • Weakening of the hryvnia. The dollar exchange rate on the interbank market rose to 42 UAH, and the euro to 48.78 UAH. This led to an increase in diesel price by another 0.28 UAH/l.

  • Import restrictions. Supplies from Slovakia have been suspended, and volumes from Lithuania and Romania have been reduced.

  • Attacks on Danube ports. Due to shelling, part of the port infrastructure has stopped, which affected the unloading speed of vessels.

In southern Ukraine, the supply of diesel fuel is complicated — the port of Constanta has been placed on the sanctions list, and shipments from Greece and Turkey are delayed due to weather conditions. Traders note that it is practically impossible to find fuel at lower prices.

Regional situation in the market

In the southern regions, diesel is sold at 47.30–47.50 UAH/l, while its price used to be 46.6 UAH. The situation in the western regions is no better — ORLEN Lietuva has reduced supplies due to a fire at the MOL plant, and Slovak resources are completely absent. In the Volyn region, fuel is already being offered at 48 UAH/l, and supplies are quickly being sold out.

According to traders' estimates, the incoming price for diesel from Poland is 47.10 UAH/l, and from Lithuania — 46.70 UAH/l. While the market awaits price changes next week, most operators refrain from making forecasts.

Earlier, it was reported that starting from October 1, 2025, Ukraine halted the import of diesel fuel from India, which, according to experts, is produced from Russian oil. This has raised concerns among drivers about possible shortages and further price increases.

The situation in the diesel fuel market in Ukraine raises concerns among drivers and businesses, as rising prices may significantly impact the cost of transportation and goods for general consumption. Experts predict that volatility in global markets and supply issues will persist, which may lead to further price increases in the near future.
