By the end of November: gasoline and diesel are expected to rise sharply in Ukraine.
According to inkorr.com: In Ukraine, price increases for fuel are forecasted until the end of November. Fuel market expert Dmytro Lyoushkin notes that the price of diesel fuel may rise by 2-3 hryvnias per liter, while gasoline will increase by 1-2 hryvnias. The main reason for this is the fuel shortage in Europe following new sanctions against Russia. This information is reported by UNIAN.
Reasons for the increase in gasoline prices
According to the expert, Ukraine is already experiencing a fuel shortage, especially diesel.
“I see an increase of 2 or even 3 hryvnias for diesel and 1-2 hryvnias for gasoline. Even despite the wild margin, traders will not stop,” Lyoushkin explained.
Other factors are also influencing the situation, including incidents at oil refineries in Europe where MOL and Lukoil companies operate. Seasonal demand reduction has also created additional problems, and import restrictions through Constanta have only complicated the situation—diesel imports from Romania sharply declined at the beginning of October.
Possible changes in the fuel market in Ukraine
Lyoushkin emphasizes that if Ukraine lifts the import restrictions through Constanta, the market may stabilize, and the excessive markup on diesel of 1.5 hryvnias per liter will disappear. However, even in the case of a temporary alignment, prices will increase again from January 1 due to the introduction of new excise duties on gasoline and diesel.
The expert hopes for market stabilization by mid-December, but everything will depend on government decisions regarding imports.
Therefore, the rise in fuel prices in Ukraine, predicted by Dmytro Lyoushkin, is related to a number of factors, including the fuel shortage in Europe and incidents at European factories. Depending on political decisions, the market may stabilize, but from the beginning of the new year, Ukrainians will again face price increases due to new excises.
