Vegetable Prices in Ukraine See Major Shifts: Carrots Drop While Cucumbers Climb.
Weekly Price Fluctuations for Fruits and Vegetables in Ukraine
According to TSN.ua: Ukraine's vegetable market is experiencing notable price changes, with carrots and potatoes becoming cheaper while cucumbers and tomatoes grow more expensive. Over the past seven days, prices for key produce items have shifted significantly.
- Carrot prices fell from 10–12 UAH/kg to 6–11 UAH/kg.
- Beetroot dropped from 9–11 UAH/kg to 8–11 UAH/kg.
- Potatoes decreased from 10–12 UAH/kg to 6–12 UAH/kg.
- Onions rose from 6–8 UAH/kg to 7–9 UAH/kg.
Among other vegetables, greenhouse cucumbers jumped from 150–220 UAH/kg to 150–250 UAH/kg, and tomatoes increased from 140–155 UAH/kg to 150–165 UAH/kg. Sweet peppers also went up, from 180–200 UAH/kg to 200–260 UAH/kg, while cauliflower rose from 125–145 UAH/kg to 160–170 UAH/kg. In contrast, red cabbage dropped from 20–25 UAH/kg to 15–20 UAH/kg, and Chinese cabbage shifted from 23–27 UAH/kg to 20–28 UAH/kg.
Radish prices saw a steep decline, falling from 200–220 UAH/kg to 75–100 UAH/kg, while green onions became more expensive.
Fruit Price Changes
On the fruit side, apple prices decreased from 30–45 UAH/kg to 25–45 UAH/kg, and pears dropped from 100–120 UAH/kg to 55–120 UAH/kg. Mandarins rose from 55–80 UAH/kg to 60–95 UAH/kg. Persimmons also became cheaper, while strawberries fell from 180–250 UAH/kg to 180–200 UAH/kg.
Overall, Ukraine's produce market is showing price swings that reflect shifting supply and demand dynamics for staple fruits and vegetables.
These price movements may stem from seasonal trends, as well as factors like weather conditions, production volumes, and changes in consumer habits.
The decline in prices for items like carrots and potatoes could improve affordability for shoppers. At the same time, rising costs for greenhouse vegetables point to potential supply constraints or higher production expenses.
