Cucumbers and peppers have sharply risen in price: which products changed in price over the week

According to ТСН: From December 12 to December 19, the food market in Ukraine generally demonstrated stability, but several products became significantly more expensive. Prices for cucumbers, sweet peppers, broccoli, mandarins, and avocados increased the most.

Vegetable and fruit prices

According to analysts from the EastFruit project, cucumbers became the most expensive: the average price rose from 130 to 150 UAH per kilogram, although the minimum remained at 90 UAH. Sweet peppers rose by 10 UAH, reaching 120 UAH per kilogram. Broccoli now costs 70–90 UAH/kg, while mandarins, due to increased demand before the New Year, became more expensive, reaching 100 UAH/kg. Avocados became more expensive by a few hryvnias — their minimum price increased from 62 to 65 UAH/kg.

Price stability of other products

Meanwhile, most other products remained stable in price. This includes the traditional “borscht set” — potatoes, cabbage, carrots, onions, and garlic, as well as apples, pears, grapes, bananas, and kiwi. Greens, particularly parsley, dill, and lettuce, are maintained at fairly high levels — up to 155 UAH/kg, but did not increase in price over the week.

Reasons for price increase

Analysis of procurement prices shows that the rise in prices for cucumbers and sweet peppers is caused not only by trade margins but also by increased production costs, including energy expenses for greenhouses and imports. Most other products remain stable in dollar terms.

Recall that it was previously discussed how much a New Year table would cost Ukrainians and how prices for popular products changed before the holidays.

The latest changes in the food market reflect general trends related to the energy crisis and rising production costs. Consumers should pay attention to prices, as before the New Year holidays the demand for certain products may increase, which may, in turn, affect their cost. It is important to monitor prices and plan purchases in advance.
