Massive Cloudflare Outage Paralyzes Services Again: What's Not Working

According to ТСН: On December 5, several services went down due to a new outage at Cloudflare. The company confirmed that it is aware of the problem and is working to resolve it.

What is Happening with Cloudflare

On Cloudflare's official website, it is noted that the organization is "investigating issues" with the Dashboard and related APIs. Some clients using these services "are experiencing impact as requests may fail and/or display errors".

The current issues have affected the operation of the Perplexity service and the Downdetector resource, which tracks outages.

What is Cloudflare

Cloudflare was founded in 2009 by three partners. The company specializes in providing content delivery, cybersecurity, and protection against cyber threats. Its global network includes over 330 data centers that function as intermediaries between visitors and web resources.

The system works by redirecting user requests through the nearest servers instead of a direct connection to the original hosting. This allows for storing copies of content in various geographical locations, significantly speeding up page loading. The system also distributes load among numerous servers, hides the real addresses of web resources from attackers, and caches data to reduce requests to primary servers.

One of Cloudflare's key functions is to repel distributed attacks that attempt to disrupt websites by sending a massive number of requests.

In August 2025, the company successfully neutralized the most powerful publicly known attack with a peak load of 11.5 terabits per second.

As of the beginning of 2025, Cloudflare served 19.3% of all websites in the world. Among its clients are large corporations, media platforms, startups, and government structures. This concentration can create a single point of failure: when technical difficulties occur, millions of resources can become unavailable. In such cases, users receive error messages 502 or 503, not realizing that the problem is not with a specific site but with the overall infrastructure.

It should be noted that Cloudflare reported a massive outage on November 18, which caused temporary problems for many popular websites around the world.

Currently, the situation with Cloudflare emphasizes the importance of a reliable internet infrastructure. When such services experience outages, it affects a large number of users and companies that rely on their reliability. Relevant services are already working to resolve the issue; however, for many users, it is just another reminder of the vulnerability of the digital world.
