Science has proven: swearing increases human strength and endurance

According to ТСН: In our society, it is still considered that the use of profanity indicates poor upbringing or disrespect. However, scientists have begun to analyze this phenomenon from a different perspective and found that swearing can have a positive impact on a person in certain situations. It not only helps to 'blow off steam' but also improves physical performance.

Experts decided to investigate how verbal aggression affects physical endurance. The experiment involved 192 volunteers who performed physical exercises, including push-ups.

Methodology of the experiment

The participants were divided into two groups:

  • First group: shouted profanities every two seconds while performing the exercises.

  • Second group: performed the same exercises, but used neutral words.

Results of the study

After the experiment and comparing the results of both groups, scientists found interesting data. Participants who used profanity showed significantly higher physical endurance and strength, allowing them to perform tasks more effectively compared to those who adhered to neutral vocabulary.

These results support the theory that an emotional release through forbidden words helps the body mobilize under stressful conditions or during significant loads.

Explanation of the phenomenon

Dr. Richard Stephens from Keele University (UK) explains this phenomenon using psychological mechanisms. He notes that swearing allows a person to temporarily dismiss social norms and constraints that usually hold us back.

“By swearing, we rid ourselves of social restrictions and allow ourselves to be more assertive in various situations. Swearing is an easily accessible way to help oneself feel focused, confident, and less distracted, as well as to engage more in what is necessary,” Dr. Stephens stated.

The expert also emphasized that at an instinctive level, people tend to hold back their strength. Profanity at a critical moment 'turns off' these safeguards, allowing full realization of physical potential.

This research adds a new dimension to understanding emotional behavior and physical endurance in humans. It could serve as a foundation for further research in psychology, sports, and even medicine since the ability to manage emotions and stress is crucial for success in many areas of life.
