Emergency Power Outages in Kyiv and Odesa: When Will the Power Schedules Return?.
According to ТСН: In certain areas of Kyiv and Odesa region, hourly power outage schedules are currently not being implemented. Instead, emergency shutdowns are being observed.
Reasons for the Situation
The company 'Ukrenergo' provided an explanation regarding the reasons for this situation and possible timelines for returning to planned outages.
The organization noted that Russian attacks on the energy infrastructure of Kyiv and Odesa in December share common features. In both regions, the enemy launched simultaneous strikes on generation facilities and electricity transmission and distribution networks.
Thus, all links of electricity production and supply were affected, complicating repair work, which requires more time than after previous attacks.
Emergency Shutdowns
'To avoid overloading the networks and to prevent large-scale emergencies, the distribution system operators are currently forced to emergency shut down part of the consumers. Due to the scale of the damage, the equipment simply cannot transmit all the necessary electricity to adhere to the hourly schedules,' the message states.
'Ukrenergo' also warns that as long as the electricity distribution and transmission facilities are not restored, ensuring stability in the application of outages is physically impossible.
'Right now, all energy workers are working together around the clock. In the affected regions, the recovery of both generation and substations of the transmission system and distribution networks is ongoing. As soon as the situation stabilizes, it will be possible to return to the predicted hourly outage schedules,' the company assured.
It should be noted that in the last two weeks Odesa, especially its energy infrastructure, is experiencing unprecedented pressure from the occupiers, and the situation leaves much to be desired.
Currently, the restoration of the energy infrastructure is a priority for the energy workers. Rapid recovery can help stabilize the situation in the regions affected by the attacks and return to planned outage schedules, which is important for normalizing the lives of local residents.
