Why power outages last differently in various regions

According to ТСН: Ukrenergo explained why in some regions the restrictions on electricity consumption have already been lifted, while in others long-lasting outages continue.

The company clarified that currently, in each region, emergency and restoration work is being carried out following the recent massive attacks from Russia, but the extent of damage to energy facilities varies by region.

"The situation is most difficult in the front-line and border regions near Russia. In these areas, the enemy can target not only with missiles and drones but also with artillery, guided bombs on power plants, as well as on transmission and distribution facilities. Therefore, the extent of damage caused by the enemy here is the highest," the statement mentions.

Moreover, frequent air alerts in the front-line and border zones complicate the conduct of emergency and restoration work, as such work is prohibited during an alert.

Ukrenergo also added that there have been repeated cases of "hits" on power plants during restoration work, as the enemy wants to destroy not only the infrastructure but also the workers who can restore it.

"In regions that are attacked less frequently and are farther from the contact line, the energy infrastructure is less damaged. It is generally easier and faster to restore. Additionally, imported electricity from neighboring European countries reaches us through the western regions, which can be immediately distributed to consumers," the company added.

The energy technicians also pointed out that restrictions on electricity supply across all regions, aimed at ensuring that "everyone has equal light," are not sensible.

"The power outages for consumers in Transcarpathia will unfortunately not provide additional hours without outages for the residents of the front-line Zaporizhzhia. The 'saved' kilowatts cannot be physically transferred there," they emphasized in the company.

In conclusion, the head of the board of NEC "Ukrenergo", Vitalij Saichenko, stressed that the situation with electricity supply in Ukraine remains highly uncertain due to the potential for new attacks by Russia on energy infrastructure.

In these difficult times, protecting energy infrastructure is a crucial part of ensuring stability in the country. Each region faces different risks, thus understanding the reasons for delays in restoring electricity supply will be of critical importance for residents. This highlights the need for support and resources to mitigate the consequences of hostilities.
