NASA rover shows Mars under Earth-like sky: a unique panorama.
According to ТСН: The NASA Curiosity rover sent a panoramic image showing what the landscape on Mars might look like if the sky resembled that of Earth. This image from the Red Planet may evoke associations with a sunset on Earth.
Details of the photographs
Curiosity, which has been exploring the surface of Mars for over ten years, captured an impressive view from the summit of the mountain it ascended.
In November 2025, the rover's black-and-white navigation cameras recorded this view over two different Martian days.
The photographs were combined into a panorama, with colors added for artistic interpretation: blue symbolizes the morning panorama, while yellow denotes the daytime.
NASA stated that adding color to such images facilitates the identification of various details in the landscape.
The resulting image resembles a sunrise or sunset on Earth.
Location of the rover
When Curiosity took these photos, it was at the top of Mount Sharp, which rises 4.8 km high. This mountain rises from the bottom of Gale Crater, where the rover landed 14 years ago.
It is also worth noting that earlier, the NASA Perseverance mission managed to capture one of the most detailed panoramas of the Red Planet on a clear, dust-free day, where objects can be seen up to 65 km away from the rover's location.
This achievement confirms that NASA's devices continue to make significant scientific discoveries on Mars. Studying the landscape of the planet, especially in such detail, opens new horizons for understanding its geology and the possible existence of life. Observing atmospheric conditions also aids in planning future missions to the Red Planet.
