Ukraine's Agenda at Davos 2023: Securing War's End and Recovery Funding.
Ukraine's Strategic Goals for the 2023 World Economic Forum in Davos
According to UATV: The World Economic Forum commences on January 19, 2023, in Davos, Switzerland. This year's gathering is set against the backdrop of Russia's ongoing war, making key themes the conflict's conclusion, security guarantees, and financing for Ukraine's economic recovery. A Ukrainian delegation, which includes President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, plans to hold intensive consultations with international partners at the event.
On January 17, 2023, Mykhailo Podoliak outlined the delegation's objectives for the forum. He noted that consultations at the presidential level would be highly active. Podoliak stressed the critical importance of formally recording the negotiating positions already developed on these issues.

Among the state leaders participating in the forum, alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, will be former U.S. President Donald Trump. A vital aspect of the discussions will be funding for Ukraine's reconstruction. Europe has already allocated 90 billion euros to support Ukraine's economy over the next two years, covering both military and social needs.
It is also significant that at the start of the full-scale invasion, Russia held over 320 billion euros in state assets within Europe, which are currently frozen. Mykhailo Podoliak expressed hope that Europe, within the Euro-Atlantic framework, could shift from a 'junior partner' role to a more proactive one. He also emphasized that 'it would be good' if Europe finds a solution to support Ukraine's economy.
'I find Europe's reluctance to take on responsibility somewhat puzzling' — Mykhailo Podoliak
Thus, Ukraine's participation in the World Economic Forum in Davos aims not only to discuss ending the war but also to galvanize international support for financing the country's recovery. The forum represents a crucial platform for Ukraine to engage global leaders directly on its most pressing needs.
Ukraine's presence at Davos reflects the nation's drive to secure international backing amid a protracted war and the urgent need for economic rebuilding. High-level consultations could mark a significant step in forging new strategic partnerships and strengthening Ukraine's position on the world stage. Discussions on recovery financing, in particular, will be pivotal for ensuring the country's future stability and development.
