Today, November 21, we celebrate the Day of the Airborne Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The holiday honors the heroism, courage, and dedication of airborne troops who ensure the safety and defense capabilities of our state.

History of the establishment of Airborne Day

The Day of the Airborne Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was established by a decree of then-president Petro Poroshenko. Previously, the professional holiday was called the Day of High Mobility Airborne Forces, but the head of Ukraine canceled it in 2017.

Considering the bravery and heroism of airborne troops demonstrated in the struggle for freedom, independence, and territorial integrity of Ukraine, in order to revive national military identity and establish modern traditions of honoring the feats of the Ukrainian army, I decree:

1. To establish the Day of the Airborne Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which will be commemorated annually on November 21.
2. To recognize as invalid the Decree of the President of Ukraine dated July 27, 2012 No. 457 'On the Day of High Mobility Airborne Forces,' - it states in the decree.

The first Day of the Airborne Assault Forces was celebrated in Kyiv at Mykhailivska Square, where the President of Ukraine ceremonially presented military personnel with updated insignia.

The Airborne Assault Forces are a separate branch of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In the course of the war, they perform tasks of encircling the enemy with vertical maneuvers and operate behind enemy lines, demonstrating high mobility, decisiveness, and heroism.
