Heavenly Hundred Heroes Day
According to UATV: Ukraine observes Heavenly Hundred Heroes Day each year on February 20, a solemn remembrance for those who lost their lives during the Revolution of Dignity. This day honors the memory of 107 individuals of diverse ages and ethnicities, whose courageous acts left a profound and lasting mark on the nation's history. The Revolution of Dignity, also known as the Euromaidan protests, was a pivotal moment in Ukraine's modern struggle for sovereignty and democratic values.
The youngest among these recognized heroes was 17-year-old Nazariy Voytovych, while the oldest was 82-year-old Ivan Nakonechnyi. Each person, with their own unique story and motivation, has become a symbol of the Ukrainian people's fight for freedom and dignity.
Honoring Their Memory
The day's commemorations are guided by the motto:
"Grateful for Freedom", which underscores the nation's enduring gratitude for the ultimate sacrifices made in the name of liberty and European ideals. Heavenly Hundred Heroes Day serves as a powerful call for society to remember those who gave their lives for a better future for Ukraine.
Commemorating these heroes has become a vital tradition in Ukraine, fostering national memory and reinforcing the fundamental importance of freedom and dignity. This day not only recalls pivotal historical events but also urges continued unity and solidarity in the ongoing defense of human rights and democratic principles. In light of the contemporary challenges facing Ukraine, the legacy of these heroes remains profoundly relevant and a source of strength for its society.
