On October 1, Ukrainians celebrate Defender's Day for the second year in a row. This holiday is dedicated to honoring the warriors who fight for the independence and sovereignty of Ukraine. On this day, we remember the heroes of the present, as well as our domestic defenders of the past who fought for our freedom.

Moreover, on October 1, we celebrate the Protection of the Holy Mother of God and Ukrainian Cossacks Day, which symbolize the protection of our state and its defenders. On this day, all defenders pray to the Holy Mother of God for peace in Ukraine and protection from enemies.

Changes in Celebration by the Ukrainian Church

This year, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church have switched to the New Julian church calendar. From now on, holidays with fixed dates are celebrated 13 days earlier. Thus, Defender's Day and Ukrainian Cossacks Day are celebrated earlier.
