Seized Virtual Assets Handed to Ukraine’s Asset Recovery Agency

According to Novyny.live: In a landmark move, Ukraine’s Asset Recovery and Management Agency (ARMA) has taken control of over 8.3 million USDT in seized virtual assets—worth more than 372 million hryvnias. This marks the first time the agency has managed such assets in the country. The funds belonged to an international cybercriminal group whose activities caused total losses exceeding $100 million.

During the investigation, law enforcement arrested four active members of the group, including its main organizer. The court froze assets valued at over $11.1 million. The first batch of confiscated cryptocurrency, amounting to 8.3 million USDT, has already been transferred to the state.

Fighting Cybercrime: A Growing Priority

Ruslan Kravchenko noted that

“modern crime has long moved into the digital space.”
This case underscores the importance of combating cybercrime and the need for effective management of virtual assets that can become targets of criminal activity. Its outcomes could significantly influence future law enforcement efforts against cybercrime in Ukraine.

This precedent opens new possibilities for Ukrainian authorities in handling crypto assets, which were previously outside traditional legal frameworks. Lessons from this investigation may drive new legislative initiatives aimed at fighting cybercrime and improving mechanisms for seizing and managing virtual assets.

As crime becomes increasingly digital, such actions represent a critical step toward upholding the rule of law in Ukraine.
