NBU simplifies payment for utilities: what will change for Ukrainians.
According to inkorr.com: The National Bank of Ukraine has announced planned changes that will make the payment of utilities, taxes, and budget payments much more convenient. The essence of the innovations lies in
updating the rules for cashless transactionsin hryvnias, which will reduce the number of details in payment documents and simplify the procedure for users. This information was disclosed by
the NBU press service.
How the NBU will change the rules for cashless transactions
The new edition of the NBU resolution has already undergone its first discussion in the summer of 2025. After the comments from banks and payment services are incorporated, the document will be reviewed again. The main goal is to make the payment system more convenient and adaptable for users.
Here is what will specifically change:
when making payments to an account, it will be sufficient to provide the full name, code, and account number of the recipient;
for transfers to cards, only the card number will be needed;
when making cash payments, it will only be necessary to provide the recipient's full name;
when paying for utilities, it will not be required to enter the identification code or the full name of the payer.
What the changes will provide for ordinary Ukrainians
These changes will allow for quicker payments through banking applications, websites, and other online services, where mistakes in the details are a common occurrence.
Furthermore, the NBU suggests obligating
services that accept paymentswithout opening an account to implement the option to indicate the actual payer's details – for example, when someone pays taxes or utilities for their relatives.
Another innovation will be the automatic insertion of data in payment forms. Services will be able to fill in the purpose of the payment, the name of the recipient, the EDRPOU code, and the account number automatically. This will be particularly convenient for regular budgetary and utility payments, where the details remain unchanged.
The National Bank hopes that simplifying the requirements will lead to a reduction in the number of mistakes, faster transfers, and increased trust in cashless transactions among Ukrainians.
Let us also remind you that earlier the NBU reported an
increase in the number of counterfeit US dollarsin the Ukrainian market during the first six months of this year. According to the NBU, currently, there are 3.4 counterfeit banknotes for every million genuine dollars in circulation.
Thus, the introduced changes will not only simplify payment procedures but also help reduce the likelihood of errors in financial operations. This is an important step towards enhancing the financial literacy of the population and creating a convenient payment ecosystem in Ukraine. It is expected that over time, the new rules will have a positive impact on trust in cashless transactions among Ukrainians, which will be another step towards the modernization of the country's financial sector.
