Odesa Receives Second Batch of Buses to Maintain Vital Transit Routes.
Buses Deployed for Odesa's Public Transit
According to Novyny.live: A second delivery of buses has arrived in Odesa to support its social transit routes, a direct response to the city's ongoing power supply issues. This shipment of 12 vehicles, organized by 'Ukrzaliznytsia' (Ukrainian Railways), marks the second wave of assistance from the Kyiv region. The buses, provided on a temporary basis, come from the Bila Tserkva, Kozhanska, Ivankivska, and Vyshnivska territorial communities, bolstering Odesa's fleet.
The city's public transport crisis escalated in mid-December 2025 when trams and trolleybuses ground to a halt due to severe power shortages. These social buses were introduced as a critical stopgap to ensure residents could continue moving around the city. As Serhii Lysak noted,
'Assistance from other regions allows us to maintain public transport operations even under energy constraints.'
This initiative represents a crucial countermeasure to the electricity problems that have severely disrupted Odesa's transport infrastructure. During an energy crisis, such social buses serve as a vital means of ensuring mobility, particularly for those who rely on public transit. The provision of alternative transport also highlights the solidarity between different regions of Ukraine during difficult times. For context, many Ukrainian cities have faced similar infrastructure challenges, making inter-regional support essential for maintaining basic services.
Thanks to these new buses, Odesa's residents have gained access to alternative transportation during a challenging period, an important step in sustaining the city's public transit system amid current difficulties.
