New magnetic storm will hit Earth on January 9: what will its intensity be.
According to ТСН: In recent days, the geomagnetic state remained calm, and the solar wind speed decreased to almost background levels. However, we are soon expecting a new magnetic storm.
According to the British Geological Survey, this storm will start to develop on the eve of the weekend. A high-speed stream from a northern coronal hole will affect Earth on January 9.
"Although we do not expect a significant increase in activity, some active periods may still be possible with a low probability of a brief peak during the G1 storm," emphasize British specialists.
According to data from Meteoagent, on January 9, solar activity will reach a red level. A K-index of 5 indicates a strong disturbance.
This level of solar activity can influence the Earth's magnetic field and cause geomagnetic storms, which in turn may lead to phenomena such as auroras, or the northern lights, especially in regions near the polar circles. The situation with magnetic storms is an important aspect for meteorology and space weather research, as it can impact the operation of satellites and energy systems on Earth.
