Honoring the memory of military medic Anton Shevchuk

Every day at 9 am Ukrainians honor the memory of those who died in the Russian-Ukrainian war. Today, we will talk about Anton Shevchuk. 

«Kind, sincere, simple and open. Cheerful and joyful. Rastyshka... Thank you for being in my life. For the shared service, for friendship. Thank you for you. You are one of the few whom I will miss», – wrote servicewoman Oksana Rubanyak.

Anton Shevchuk was an active participant in the Revolution of Dignity and joined the military in 2014. He died during combat operations. The message about his death on October 29th was shared by poet and servicewoman Oksana Rubanyak.

Anton Shevchuk's position in the army

Earlier, the position of head medic of Anton Shevchuk was downgraded to a lower position in another unit due to his reports about substandard tourniquets. He was also attempted to be held accountable for unauthorized leave from his unit while he was in the hospital.

According to the operational command «North», Anton Shevchuk actively participated in the Revolution of Dignity. Other doctors would not allow him to join protest actions, so he decided to do it himself.

Embodiment of rebellious genes

Anton believed he had rebellious genes through his ancestors, who were tormented in Siberia and were members of the UPA. Relatives blessed his participation in the events of Maidan before he joined the protests.

During Maidan, Anton was a member of the stage protection and co-organizer of the First company. Later, this company turned into the 42nd company «Lviv Gate», which was headed by Andriy Yanchenko.

Service in the army

Anton served at Maidan for several weeks, then worked in the hospital for 10 days. After this, he joined the 25th territorial defense battalion «Kyivska Rus'» in May 2014.

Since August 2014, Anton served in the Debaltseve area. During his military service, he repeatedly saved his comrades, leading a medical company and evacuation unit.

Anton was injured twice in the first three years on the front line. Initially, his shoulder was injured but it was healed with surgery. Then he sustained a serious spinal injury. However, after recovery, he returned to his comrades.

End of life of Anton Shevchuk

In 2018, Anton was awarded the rank of captain of the medical service. As of August 2023, he held the position of head of the medical service of the 82nd separate airborne-assault brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

A documentary film «The First Company» was recently released, telling about the Revolution of Dignity and the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war. Anton Shevchuk appeared in one of the roles.
