In Sumy, road workers are on trial for the death of two soldiers: what happened

According to ТСН: In Sumy, two employees of the local road service will be tried for their inaction that led to the death of two young soldiers.

The Sumy regional prosecutor's office reported that the 'road workers' were supposed to install barriers and road signs before the bridge over the Seym River, which was damaged at the beginning of the full-scale invasion. These signs were meant to warn drivers about the torn road surface.

However, due to their inaction for five months, the barriers and signs never appeared. The absence of these safety measures was the reason why the soldiers' vehicle flew into the river at night. The incident occurred on September 14, 2022, and two defenders died - a 22-year-old driver and a 23-year-old passenger.

The pre-trial investigation has been completed, and the indictment has already been sent to court.

This case highlights the importance of adhering to safety standards on roads, especially in wartime. Responsibility for such tragedies lies not only with the military but also with those responsible for the condition of the infrastructure that can save lives. Now it remains to be seen what will happen in the trial and the possible consequences for the accused.
