New border rules with Poland: how EES will affect Ukrainians.
New border crossings joined the EES system
According to inkorr.com: Three border crossings on the Polish-Ukrainian border located in Lviv region have integrated into the Entry/Exit System (EES). These are 'Kroszenko - Smilnytsya', 'Malchovice - Nizhankovychy' and 'Budomezh - Hrushev'. According to the Western Regional Department of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, these crossings are already operating under the new system requirements.
Operation of the EES system
The EES system is already fully operational at such Polish crossings as 'Medika - Shehyni', 'Korczowa - Krakowiec', as well as on the railway route 'Przemyśl - Mostyska'. Testing of this system continues at other crossings, and its impact on border control processes is being evaluated.
Due to the introduction of the new system, the border control procedure may take more time, which affects the speed of processing travelers and may lead to increased waiting times.
New border crossing rules
As of October 12, new rules for citizens of third countries, including Ukrainians, crossing external borders have come into effect within the European Union. This concerns the launch of the Entry/Exit System (EES), which automates the registration of travelers' biometric data.
Border crossings from the Ukrainian side located on EU territory have also switched to the new Entry/Exit System (EES). While this complicates border control procedures, this innovation is a step towards strengthening the protection of the external borders of the European Union from illegal crossings.
The innovation in the form of the EES system aims to simplify border control, however, initial difficulties may cause delays. Interaction with the new system will undoubtedly require time for adaptation for both border guards and travelers. It is important to take these changes into account when planning trips to avoid delays at the border.
