Former Ukrainian MP Formally Suspected of Land Grab and Illegal Construction Near Dnipro River.
Former Ukrainian Lawmaker Faces Criminal Allegations
According to Novyny.live: A former member of Ukraine's parliament has been formally notified of suspicion for illegally seizing land and constructing a house without authorization near the Dnipro River. The suspect is a 55-year-old man who served as a national deputy in the 6th and 8th convocations and was also a deputy on the Kyiv City Council.
Case Details and Environmental Concerns
Investigators state that while the ex-MP legally owns a 0.1-hectare plot in the Voskresenski Gardens area of Kyiv's Dniprovskyi District, he unlawfully occupied an additional 0.3 hectares of communal land. On this illegally seized land, he built a single-story house covering 103 square meters without obtaining any of the required permits.
This case highlights ongoing challenges with land use and construction violations in Ukraine, particularly in ecologically sensitive zones. Notably, the construction site is located within the 100-meter protective coastal strip of the Dnipro River, where building is heavily restricted to preserve the ecosystem. A pre-trial investigation into the matter is currently underway.
Such incidents underscore systemic issues with land law compliance in Ukraine, especially concerning environmental protection. Unauthorized construction in protected riparian zones can have severe consequences for local ecology and communities. The outcome of this investigation could set a significant precedent in the fight against corruption and the abuse of power by local officials.
